Opened in 2005, the project involved the creation of a garden on the roof of the school gymnasium and is a classic case of how the footprint of a structure can be given back to the community.
Alumasc supplied the Derbigum waterproofing and green roof technology used on the project, with advice and technical support from initial consultation through to implementation.
The FRA large refurbishment category was awarded to the Woolwich Arsenal development where a 5000 sq m landscaped park was created above a ground level car park.
Alumasc supplied a Hydrotech structural waterproofing system and a ZinCo green roof system.
Sir Michael Latham and the judges praised the project as it "showed a clear understanding of client requirements and had incorporated a green solution into the creation of an impressive amenity space".
In any green roof, the correct system build-up is vital, with the basic structure comprising a root barrier and waterproofing, moisture mat, drainage element, filter membrane and planting medium.
