The Hydrotech System was proposed by the construction managers, MACE.

Intelligent Membrane for Royal Bank of Scotland HQ
Hydrotech Structural Waterproofing from Alumasc has been used on the new head quarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Gogarburn, Edinburgh.
Hydrotech proved to be the obvious choice as MACE had previous experience of using the product on numerous high profile projects including the Glaxo SmithKline Beecham Headquarters, Brentford.
Scottish Roofing Services was selected from Alumasc's national network of approved contractors to work with MACE.
Hydrotech is known as the 'intelligent membrane' because it is a lightweight, yet tough, self-healing monolithic membrane.
Hydrotech achieves a 100% bond to a range of substrates, with no risk of water tracking below the membrane and no risk of lap failure.
The unique formula of modified bitumen, synthetic rubbers and antioxidants ensures a highly reliable, long-term waterproofing membrane for protected roofs, plaza decks, green roofs and other similar applications.
An Alumasc ZinCo Green Roof was also specified on the project, on the restaurant roof.
The Client wanted a roof that would be green all year round, however an alternative solution was proposed due to weight constrictions, the need for minimal maintenance and lack of irrigation that were characteristics of the project application.
After extensive consultation with the building's designers and a visit to the ZinCo Green Roofing HQ in Germany, a revised design was put forward that required minimum maintenance, but in turn remained as colourful and green as possible for the majority of the year.
The system comprising a drainage layer, sedum mat substrate, sedum mats and plug plants was chosen to provide a visually striking extensive green roof, with strong ecological benefits.
Full details on both the Hydrotech and Zinco Green Roof systems are available on Alumasc's new website, including full technical information, CAD downloads and an NBS Specification generator.
