ZinCo green roof technology, supplied by Alumasc, has been used at Mendip Green School in Weston-Super-Mare.

ZinCo green roof technology, supplied by Alumasc, has been used at Mendip Green School in Weston-Super-Mare The main sloping roofs, built at a 15 degree pitch, provide a significant visual amenity, being highly visible from neighbouring houses and gardens, as well as a busy road alongside the school boundary

The ZinCo green roof system consists of a series of carefully designed layers to provide a stable long-term base for the planting and complete waterproofing to the building.

The planting is underlayed by an Alumasc Derbigum waterproofing cap sheet with integral anti root capability.

Water and substrate retention and drainage is provided by Floratec FS 75 on the 15 sloped areas and Floradrain FD 25 on the flat link roof.

The specification for Mendip Green was originally planned as a tiled roof, but was altered to a green roof by architects Gray Holmes and James of Clevedon in order to gain the environmental and aesthetic benefits of a ZinCo green roof system.

An added benefit was to provide an on-site educational facility with regard to the natural environment and bio-diversity.

The project, carried out for North Somerset Council, was installed by Alumasc Approved Contractors, W A Roofing of Bristol and is covered by one of the comprehensive warranties on offer from Alumasc to suit the specified design life of the installed product.
