Armaseam keeps Irish swimming pool dry

Armaseam, the standing seam metal roof system from Alumasc, was an obvious solution for new Tuam Leisure Centre in County Galway.

In Ireland, rain is a fact of life Weather fronts sweeping in from the Atlantic bring heavily moisture-laden air which transmutes into the rainfall that gives the country its 'Emerald Isle' status

Therefore, contemporary building projects such as the new Tuam Leisure Centre in County Galway need to reflect this fact in their design.

Armaseam, the standing seam metal roof system from market leading exterior building product specialists, Alumasc, was an obvious solution for this project.

Based upon the well-tried zipped joint technology and with Alumasc's added refinements, the roof is constructed from roll-formed panels, which are manufactured to length from strip coil on site, or supplied ready-made from the factory.

The Tuam Leisure Centre has a striking roof profile with a shallow radius.

Armaseam panels were fabricated on site to give the required curvature - a distinct time and cost-saving advantage over conventional prefabricated roofs-; tight radii can be achieved by using special equipment, or supplied factory-preformed.

The panels - available in 300mm or 400mm widths, are first positioned in situ on the building.

They are then secured with hidden clips and closed and seamed together with a special hand tool, eliminating the need for mastics, sealants or penetrating mechanical fixings.

The result is a light, rigid roof incorporating span capability, with no joints or endlaps and the ability to vent to the outside any moisture trapped within the construction, allowing the system to 'breathe'.

Armaseam is also a totally weatherproof, maintenance-free standing seam metal roofing system with a proven record of long life and durability.

Standard Armaseam aluminium panels with an embossed stucco finish were specified for the Tuam project.

These can also be supplied plain and painted or polyester coated.

Other materials available include copper, zinc and stainless steel.

The project architects were S and P Architects, of Dublin and the main contractor, J.J.Rhattigan of Galway.

Rowland Roofing of Castlebar were the Alumasc approved installers.
