The waveform roof of a Cambridge office building has been upgraded with the Alumasc Derbigum high-performance waterproofing system.

The existing membrane was treated with Alumasc Bitumen Primer and the primer itself followed by 100mm Korklite Plus insulating panels.

Manufactured entirely from sustainably grown cork, Korklite is light, strong, highly insulating and 100 per cent recyclable.

The panels were fully bonded in Hi-Ten Universal bitumen, then Derbigum high-performance membrane in light-grey-mineral finish was torch applied to give a low-maintenance, waterproof and UV-stabilised covering.

Derbigum is a 4mm heavy-duty membrane, dual reinforced with a high-tensile polyester core and a glassfibre-reinforced weathering surface.

A range of textures and colours available, including Derbigum Black, which was used for the gutters and perimeter of Radio House Alumasc designers were able to provide a solution to the kerb and coping perimeter detail by building up the edge with scored timber to follow the curvature.

Developed for refurbishment and new build, the range delivers lifetime protection for warm, cold or inverted roofs.

Derbigum can often be applied over existing installations, eliminating the need to remove the old material.
