Tower transformed with Alumasc Brick render system

Swistherm External Wall Insulation with Acrylic Brick slips from Alumasc have been used to transform a landmark Jersey tower block.

Located in the island's capital, St Helier, The Cedars is a residential apartment block managed by the States of Jersey Housing Department, who commissioned the refurbishment work in order to correct structural defects and improve the thermal performance of the building whilst maintaining the unique listed brickwork elevation.

Alumasc's Swistherm Insulated Render was installed by Rateavon.

The system is BBA approved and fully warranted.

It has provided a weather tight facade able to withstand the rigours of The Cedars' exposed coastal location, improving the building's thermal U-Values from 1.75W/m2K to 0.35W/m2K.

Residents have already reported that their apartments and communal areas are much warmer and that the work has helped to eliminate draughts.

In addition to improved thermal properties, a key requirement of the scheme was to replicate the existing brick facade in accordance with conditions specified on the project's Planning Permit.

Alumasc's Acrylic Brick Slips were specified for their ability to retain the Tower Block's appearance.

The Cedars is the first high-rise project where the Brick Slip system has been used extensively.

Acrylic Brick Slips have been developed directly to complement Alumasc's wide range of lightweight render systems and are extensively used to match existing detail after renovation work.

They offer a hard-wearing, UV-Stable solution on areas of facade where the use of real bricks would not be viable due to their weight.
