Matched pairs of ABB high efficiency motors and drives will reduce energy consumption at the new Coventry Hospital by over 1,400 MWh per year for the ventilation system in block A.
So Beetham Landmark Manchester has asked ABB to provide a complete turnkey connection package to ensure that power is available to meet a tight project schedule, ensuring that the building can be occupied at the earliest possible opportunity.
Over a four-month project, that started in August 2005, ABB will install the building's complete 6.6kV HV and 230/400V LV electrical distribution network, including a 1 MVA distribution transformer, as well as liaising directly with United Utilities to manage the smooth progress of the vital connection to the local power network.
In a separate contract, ABB is also providing a CHP (combined heat and power) scheme for the building.
About Beetham Tower, Manchester Designed by award winning Ian Simpson Architects, the development will feature a striking, slender glass tower and will be the tallest structure in the city centre at 157m high with a glass 'blade' increasing the height of the building to 171m.
