Visitors to Holbeck Urban Village consultation -"What Kind of Place" - will be able to experience a virtual tour of the whole 62 acre site thanks to digital urban visualisation specialists AMT3D.

Visitors attending this weekend's launch of the massive public consultation process on the development plans for the Holbeck Urban Village -"What Kind of Place" - will be able to experience a virtual tour of the whole 62 acre site thanks to digital urban visualisation specialists AMT3D The event, which is being organised by Yorkshire Forward and Leeds City Council, has been planned to provide an opportunity for as many of the local population as possible to comment on the plans for the development of the area including the many historic and architecturally important buildings such as the ornate Temple Works and the Tower Works buildings which characterise this part of South Leeds

AMT3D specialise in producing highly accurate, three-dimensional digital models of Europe's urban regeneration hot-spots and has recently completed a model of the whole of the Holbeck area, which has now been made available to enable architects and developers involved in delivering the Holbeck Masterplan to show how their plans will actually look when completed.

A key feature of the photo-realistic model is the ability to be able to take a virtual tour through the area's 7km of streets and alleyways using the latest games based viewing technology.

To help visitors see as much of the area as possible on the day, the event planners have prepared a special trail through the area which will take them past many of the key development projects, which has also been recreated by the AMT team using the 3D model.

Visitors will be able to see the 3D trail before leaving the exhibition or on the AMT3D Web site www.amt3d.com for the duration of the consultation process.

The model has been produced using high resolution scanning techniques combined with advanced graphical software which was partially developed at Leeds University.

AMT3D's CEO Brendan Hafferty is delighted that the people of Leeds will be amongst the first to be able to take advantage of the unique technology.

"It is very appropriate that this technology, which was developed just a few miles up the road, is being used to enhance the consultation process for the Holbeck area".

"This part of Leeds played a key role in the City's industrial development and prosperity and now, some 200 years later, it is hoped that the area will once again become a thriving centre of industry this time based on computer chips rather than the looms and lathes of the Victorian era".

Ultimately the plan is to populate the model with the design proposals from the leading architects working in the area which will enable planners and local residents to have an opportunity to see exactly how the proposed changes will look once the £800m scheme is completed.

More importantly the model will enable the city's planners to be the first in the country to use the technology to accurately asses the impact of the proposals in the context of the whole environment including how it fits with the overall plan for 21st century Leeds.
