Westport3d - first interactive 3d town in Ireland

AMT3D, the company behind the 3d town model, was also commissioned to produce CAD models of the new developments and insert them into the offline interactive version of the Westport3D digital model.

Councillors, T.D.s and representatives of the tourism and business communities came out in force for the official launch of Westport3D at the modern cinema in Westport, Co Mayo.

Opening remarks from Councillor McGuire were followed by contributions from Town Manager, Peter Hynes, and Vice-Chairman of tourist organisation Destination Westport, Darren Madden, after which, the invited guests were taken on a virtual tour of the town; the interactive 3D digital model of Westport's historic centre being projected onto the cinema screen for full visual impact.

In addition to viewing the town centre as it is today, guests had the unique experience of being able to see how the town will look following completion of two new developments, the first being a new retail and associated apartment development on Bridge St and the second, the refurbished Town Hall as designed by Mayo County Council architects.

Not only does the model allow the observer to 'view the future', it also enables them to 'enter' the CAD models of the new buildings and look out on the surrounding 3D vista - another first for AMT3D.

Peter Hynes the Westport Town Manager commented; "The ability to switch between the town as it is now and the town as it could look following the proposed development is an extremely powerful design, planning and marketing tool and I'm proud to say unique to Westport".

In addition to experiencing this unique 3D experience Brendan Hafferty, AMT3D's MD, announced that not only is Westport3D available to be viewed online via state-of-the-art streaming technology, it is also now possible to walk down one of the main streets and click on the door of one of the most famous bars in Ireland to be immediately transported to its web site.
