Zoned heating appropriate for different activities

An Ambi-Rad product story

Innovative use of heaters above doorway reduces draughts and costs down at greetings card company .

Greetings card company Carte Blanche is one of the UK's leading card and gift wholesalers, best know for the 'Me to You' Teddy Bear range.

In just five years from start-up, the organisation grew to a GBP25m turnover company, with exports to 63 countries and in 15 languages.

New premises were required to house the expanded operation.

A 3000m warehouse and packing facility in Chichester became the company's new home, but required a heating system that would successfully and evenly heat all areas.

The areas include high level racking bays, requiring a constant 16-18C, and two mezzanine floors, one above the other, where employees carry out selection and packing.

These require 20-21C comfort temperatures.

Application.

Four Ambi-Rad STB gas-fired warm air unit heaters were suspended from the roof at 8m above floor level.

Warm air from two of the units is ducted directly to the mezzanine floors.

The other two units were positioned to emit heat into the main storage area.

One is above the loading bay door and the other serves the racking bays.

Benefits.

The units successfully and economically maintain temperatures within Carte Blanche's specified range.

Heat to the mezzanine floors is distributed evenly in a relatively confined space to achieve a comfortable working environment for personnel.

The positioning of a heater above the loading bay door ensures protection from the influx of cold air as the doors open and close, keeping draughts out and costs down.
