At its Elmdon, Solihull factory, the company produces components for supply to manufacturers such as Land Rover.
The production process generates a considerable amount of uncontrollable heat, so when Collins and Aikman decided to remove the factory's 40-year old warm air ducted heating equipment, an efficient automated heating and ventilation system was a prime requirement.
Principal M and E contractor Admec of Birmingham designed, engineered and installed a fully automatic and energy efficient heating and ventilation system based on 14 Ambi-Rad indirect gas-fired and fully packaged STE400 air handling units.
The Ambi-Rad units are arranged to provide winter space heating and summer/winter ventilation with 100% fresh air and recirculation facility, and are controlled automatically by the new building management system (BMS).
The BMS detects fresh air requirements and provides fully balanced extract ventilation, utilising a series of high level mounted extract fans, thus ensuring cross-flow of air throughout the factory.
Supplementary low level wall mounted fresh air input grilles with automatic dampers are provided for enhanced summer fresh air input Gurbachan Virdee of Admec comments: "As a result of the new heating and ventilation system installation, the client can achieve their environmental objectives for the building, including energy conservation, enhanced system performance, flexible system management, improvements in safety and environmental standards and reduced operating and maintenance costs".
Collins and Aikman facilities manager David Hughes confirms that the system satisfies all performance requirements. Request a free brochure from Ambi-Rad ...
"This is a highly effective heating and ventilation system that maintains comfort temperatures and good air quality within the production areas.".
