Comfort, air quality and reduced noise

Turner Powertrain has found significantly reduced noise levels and increased comfort and air quality following the installation of Niche MUA warm air heaters.

Turner Powertrain, part of the Caterpillar Group, has found significantly reduced noise levels and increased comfort and air quality following the installation of Niche MUA warm air heaters at its Wolverhampton machining and production facility The company manufactures and services transmissions for heavy plant equipment

Its 25-year old premises lie in the middle of a housing estate, where the noise generated from the factory, contributed to by the existing warm air cabinet heating system, had led to complaints from residents.

The heating system was also grossly inefficient and in need of replacement.

Design and build contractor IES Energy Services Limited of Brighouse, West Yorkshire designed, specified and installed a new heating system that would improve overall environmental conditions within the factory yet wouldn't impact on residents.

A total of three Niche MUA direct gas-fired warm air units were installed in the 7,500mU building.

Two MUA 175 VAV heaters were positioned internally in the manufacturing part of the premises, and controlled via a single PC terminal.

In the machine room, where space is at a premium, an MUA 300 VAV vertical unit was mounted externally.

This unit has a stand-alone control system.

All the heaters are equipped with variable air volume capability.

This enables the heaters to control air speed automatically according to air quality and temperature within the building.

For example, if the sensor detects that optimum temperature has been reached, the unit will slow down airflow into the building to maintain comfort conditions.

If the air quality changes and venting is required, the heaters increase the air speed to introduce fresh air into the building and improve the environment.

The result is that operatives within the building remain warm and the air quality stable.

Noise from the heating system is no longer a problem.

A spokesman for IES Energy Services comments: "The Niche heaters have been very effective in achieving what our client required "an overall improvement in the internal environment, including noise reduction". Request a free brochure from Ambi-Rad ...
