Condensation expelled at swimming pool
Externally mounted Niche gas-fired MUA LSD350 warm air heater was installed to both heat and de-humidify the building.
Swimming is once again an important part of the curriculum at the Kingswood Centre in West Runton, on the North Norfolk coast, following the installation of a new heating system from Niche in the pool enclosure.
Kingswood Centres run residential educational adventure courses for school children age 8 to 17 throughout the UK.
Educational courses in key national curriculum subjects are combined with a variety of activities, including quad biking, tree-top rope walking, climbing, archery, underground caving and abseiling.
Until recently, swimming was off the activity agenda at the West Runton Kingswood Centre due to the poor state of the pool building.
Originally an unheated open-air pool, it was enclosed in the 1960s with a rudimentary cover.
Condensation was a particular problem, and over time the structure of the building had become damp.
An externally mounted Niche gas-fired MUA LSD350 warm air heater was installed to both heat and de-humidify the building.
The unit is fitted with a cross-plate heat exchanger for additional energy efficiency.
Warm air is ducted into the building and mixes instantly with cold air to prevent condensation build-up.
Heat distribution is even throughout, eliminating temperature stratification.
The cross plate heat recovery section and extract fan ensure that the majority of heat is reused, reducing both fuel costs and carbon emissions.
This system qualifies for the Government's Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme.
In a complete refurbishment project, a new Perspex cover replaced the original and new gas mains was laid to supply the Niche heater.
Architect Noel Spruce comments: "The thermal performance of the building has improved considerably".
"The whole place is now brighter and condensation-free".
Niche is part of the Ambi-Rad Group of Companies.
