Ambi-Rad , the West Midlands based manufacturer of energy efficient heating systems for the industrial and commercial markets, has acquired Sonning Heating.

Ambi-Rad , the West Midlands based manufacturer of energy efficient heating systems for the industrial and commercial markets, has acquired Sonning Heating of Eastleigh, Hampshire, for an undisclosed sum Ambi-Rad is the market leader in Europe for sales of proprietary gas-fired radiant tube heating systems, as well as being a major supplier of warm air heaters and air curtains

Well-known within the construction industry, the company markets its products under four leading brand names: Ambi-Rad, Reznor, Nordair-Niche and Airbloc.

With turnover in 2005 of £21 million, the company employs over 200 people at its UK operations.

The acquisition of The Sonning Heating Company extends Ambi-Rad's product offering to include radiant systems that utilise hot air, rather than direct combustion, to deliver highly effective heat in large space buildings.

Mike Brookes, Managing Director comments: "The acquisition of Sonning is a strategic move for Ambi-Rad, giving us a broader product offering with significant development potential and increased added value for customers".

"Our products and sales sectors are an excellent 'fit', providing a strong platform from which to grow both companies organically." About Sonning.

Sonning Heating was established in 1972 to design, develop and manufacture a specialised range of high level radiant tube heaters.

Traditionally, Sonning have provided a complete in-house design, manufacture and installation service for a wide range of end-users in sectors such as the military, manufacturing, warehousing and rail maintenance depots.

Ambi-Rad will continue to provide the design and manufacturing services, but will work through the trade with regard to installation.

Sonning hot air radiant systems are entirely complimentary to the existing Ambi-Rad radiant products.

Like Ambi-Rad radiant heaters, they are mounted overhead.

However, they differ in several significant ways.

Once installed, there are no overhead services or maintenance requirements, thus providing significant benefit where high access may be a problem.

Additionally, they operate at lower temperatures and have no source of ignition within the heated area, making them ideal for high risk or sensitive areas.

The systems are available in modules from 50kW to 500kW, which can be combined to cover the largest of applications.

Energy options.

The Sonnaire units are designed to achieve optimum efficiency in heat transfer, and - crucially, at a time when energy costs are rising - run on a variety of fuels, including natural gas, LPG and oil.

If required, the heaters can be fitted with dual fuel burners, giving the option of either gas or oil.

Mike Brookes, Managing Director, adds: "The fuel options available for the Sonning range make the heaters exceptionally flexible".

"In a relatively mature market, product flexibility is essential to achieving year-on-year growth".

Sonning Heating will operate as a division of Ambi-Rad . Request free introductory details about products from Ambi-Rad ...
