Ambirad Radiant puts shine into Hycrome

An Ambi-Rad product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 4, 2008

Energy efficient Vision radiant tube heating from AmbiRad has transformed the comfort conditions for employees at a manufacturing and production facility.

Part of a major heating decentralisation project, the AmbiRad radiant system provides accurate control, zoning in 6 sections and the flexibility and fuel economy required by the customer.

The premises are owned by Hycrome (Europe) , a leading surface treatment and manufacturing specialist for the petrochemical and aerospace engineering industries.

The 30-year old building had previously been heated by a central boiler system feeding steam to radiators positioned around the building.

Hycrome Director Stephen Kelly says: "The whole system was approaching the end of its life and had become very inefficient".

"Some steam radiators also kept breaking down".

"The time was right to look at decentralisation." Requirements for a new system were heat coverage across the entire factory, highly economic performance and energy saving operation.

AmbiRad recommended Vision radiant heaters for their flexibility and effectiveness.

The units were installed by contractors Integrated Mechanical of Ripponden, Yorkshire.

VSXE, ECA-listed radiant heaters were installed in the 10m high roof, positioned to avoid the high level cranes.

Radiant offers significant advantages in this application: extract fans that maintain air quality by removing airborne contaminants also draw in cold air when roller shutter doors are opened.

The radiant heaters quickly recover the interior to comfort temperature of around 21degC.

The project, including relaying of existing gas pipework, was carried out without interruption to production - an essential consideration for Hycrome.
