Hackney City Farm tops for sustainable building
New Education Resource Centre at the Hackney City Farm is the latest strawbale building to be completed by amazonails.
It is completely under cover and so will allow seminars and practical building and plastering courses to be run whatever the weather.
A complete house could be built within the centre if necessary.
The first event was a half-day introductory seminar.
Participants learned about the history of strawbale building, the ecological and community benefits of this method of construction, amazonails 13 year history encompassing over 100 buildings, including the UK's largest, and iconic structures such as the National Trust Footprint project at Windermere.
They also learned of the different techniques which are used, many of these techniques having been developed by amazonails to maximise ecological benefits, maximise community involvement and build for the UK and European climate.
The presentation to participants was followed by practical demonstrations and exercises in which they could try for themselves the basic techniques for building with strawbales.
A series of seminars and courses will cater for building industry professionals, architects and surveyors and for aspiring self-builders, for which strawbale is ideal.
These back up the range of courses run by amazonails as part of real builds all around the UK and in Europe.
For more details of the courses, which are updated frequently, see the amazonails website.
