Ancon Building Products has added the cross-sectional areas of its wall ties to its website and literature in order to enable designers to calculate an accurate U-value for a wall.

The effect of wall ties on the U-value of a wall is often insignificant and can be omitted in accordance with EN ISO 6946.

The use of the actual cross-sectional area of a wall tie, rather than the default values found in many U-value calculators, can make a considerable difference to the calculation.

Default values for stainless-steel ties overestimate the cross-sectional areas involved.

Wall ties are an important element in the stability of cavity walls.

Stainless-steel ties are corrosion resistant, are readily available in various types and lengths and are 100 per cent recyclable.
