New residential development in Marple Bridge, Cheshire, on the site of the town's former Co-op building, has seen all external glazing supplied by Anders Glass.

A new residential development in Marple Bridge, Cheshire, on the site of the town's former Co-op building, has seen all external glazing supplied by leading Salford-based glass processor and glazing contract specialist, Anders Glass.

The project provides an important showcase for Anders as it seeks to expand its activities in the residential development market, on the back of continued success in the commercial hotel, leisure and retail construction sector.

A landmark building in Marple Bridge, the former Co-op site has been completely redeveloped as an 18 unit development by Stockport-based Multibuild, one of the North West's leading contractors.

Comprising 17 two bedroom apartments and a single two bedroom town house, only elements of the original store facade remain, with all external joinery work completed by Deeside specialist, R J Parry Joinery .

Anders Glass has been subcontracted by R J Parry to supply all glazing for the exterior shop front and screens and double glazed window units throughout the new homes.

Because of the historical significance of the old Co-op building, progress on the new development has been keenly followed by Marple Bridge residents and potential home buyers alike, as Multibuild's Steve Taylor observed: "The site has had to be sympathetic to the character of the original building, whilst obviously providing new, modern residential properties of the highest specification and finish".

The move by many house builders and developers towards converting former commercial premises into new residential developments, typified by this Co-op building, has opened up new opportunities for Anders to highlight its specialist glazing techniques, as managing director, Simon Anders acknowledged: "This re-development trend demands greater creativity and versatility from the glazing contractor to make the best use of the glass".

"We carry out our work mindful of the traditional values of these wonderful old buildings whilst also catering for the aesthetic demands of modern living as well as the practical demands of energy efficiency.

"Anders has a range of products and techniques which can achieve the balance between old and new, traditional and cutting edge and we've been delighted to put this into practice working with Multibuild and R J Parry on this high profile site.".
