BBC stay cool During ongoing construction works associated with the BBC's new regional broadcast centre in Birmingham last summer, Andrews Sykes provided three 500kW chillers to meet the cooling needs of the building during fit-out.

Relocating 750 BBC staff, equipment and assets from a 1960s cellular building at Pebble Mill to a modern, predominately open plan office environment at the Mailbox, a multi-purpose complex in the heart of Birmingham, is a huge task.

Accommodation of complex acoustic and engineering specifications within an existing multi-tenanted building was always going to be a demanding challenge that would stretch programming, management and delivery techniques to the limit.

It is a well-documented fact that effective climate control helps promote greater productivity, improved staff and customer relations, and healthier profits, all of which are essential elements in business today.

From fast chillers to high capacity fluid chillers, Andrews Sykes can provide a solution whatever the environment or activities involved.

Typical applications include cold stores, low temperature production facilities, large volume air conditioning, document archives, food storage, beer cellars, marquees and temporary structures.

With project implementation at the BBC taking place during spring/summer 2004, chiller units were vital ingredients to aid the ongoing construction and technology installation.

The building contractors were already using other equipment from Andrews Sykes so an enquiry was made to also supply a solution for temporary chiller units.

After a brief assessment of requirements by Andrews Sykes, three 500kW chiller units were duly installed outside, at the rear of the building and connected to the main chilled water supply using wire armoured pipe.

Michael Bell, Project Manager for Dearle and Henderson, the consultants responsible for the management of the complete BBC project said "We have had nothing but excellent support and service from Andrews Sykes and their products.
