Apollo Orbis range achieves marine approval
Apollo Fire Detectors Limited has received confirmation that Orbis, its new generation of conventional fire detectors, has been certified under the Marine Equipment Directive (MED).
Apollo Fire Detectors Limited has received confirmation that Orbis, its new generation of conventional fire detectors, has been certified under the Marine Equipment Directive (MED).
The Marine Equipment Directive came into force in 1999 and is intended to enhance safety at sea by harmonising the application of international safety standards for marine equipment across the European Community.
It applies to some 10,000 items including the components of fire protection systems.
Products that are MED compliant will carry the distinctive "Ship's Wheel" mark.
Apollo marine detectors Designed to offer a lower physical profile than previous fire detectors, the Orbis range is ideal for applications where space is restricted, or where circumstances require the fire detection equipment to be discreet.
The Orbis range comprises an optical smoke detector, multisensor smoke detector, three classes of static heat detector and three classes of rate-of-rise heat detector.
There is also a choice of a standard, electronics-free TimeSaver Base and a relay base.
Orbis fire detectors offer a wealth of new features to save time, enhance reliability and reduce false alarms.
These include a DustDefyT system that prevents dust ingress while maintaining airflow; DirtAlert, which warns service engineers via a flashing yellow LED that the detectors need maintenance; and FasTest, a maintenance procedure that takes just four seconds to test and confirm that smoke and heat detectors are functioning correctly.
In addition to the Orbis range of conventional fire detectors, Apollo offers the Discovery range of intelligent fire detectors for marine applications.
Both the Orbis and Discovery marine ranges are approved by Lloyd's Register of Shipping, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd.
Approval certificates can be downloaded from the Apollo website.
