Apollo fire detectors have been specified to protect Sytner's flagship BMW and MINI dealership at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire The fire detection system incorporates both conventional and intelligent Apollo fire detectors and was installed by Diamond Fire of Warwick

Sytner is the UK's leading retailer of prestige and specialist cars and the site at High Wycombe has been purpose-designed to display the BMW and MINI marques to their best advantage.

The BMW showroom features a continuous glass facade that fronts the forecourt, while the interior features floor-to-ceiling graphics.

There is also an open-plan workshop area running the length of the building to the rear.

The site also features a separate MINI showroom and a preparation building for both marques.

The challenge for Diamond Fire was to provide a fire detection system that would neither interfere with the interior decor nor compromise on fire protection.

A major stipulation of the architect was that no devices such as sounders should be fixed to the walls.

Diamond Fire therefore used Apollo XP95 analogue addressable fire detectors with ancillary base sounders in the showroom.

Apollo's ancillary base sounder has a sound output of 85dB(A) and up to 126 sounders can be connected in a loop (subject to calculation).

The workshop area is equipped with Apollo beam detectors, which use infrared light to detect smoke over large open spaces.

The intelligent fire detection system is controlled by a four-loop panel from Advanced Electronics.

Linked to the intelligent fire detection system are two conventional systems based on Apollo's Series 65 range.

The conventional fire detection systems provide protection in the preparation building and MINI showroom.

In keeping with the modern design of the Sytner's flagship dealership and the need for discreet devices, the fire detection system uses stainless steel control panels and pure white devices throughout.

It is programmed to provide phased evacuation of the site in the event of an emergency.
