At a project at Heaton Park Congregational Church, Roofshield was specified for the roof construction by the architects to ensure condensation does not occur in the roof space.

Heaton Park Congregational Church is a Grade II Listed church and Sunday school designed by Sir Alfred Waterhouse and built in just 7 months in 1881.

The building has been an important and integral part of the life of the local community for well over a century but became witness to an aging and dwindling congregation, a fire-fighting approach to maintenance made it a target of vandalism, and it became increasingly unsustainable for use as originally intended.

Architects Z Architecture and Design of Radcliffe, Manchester, carried out a 5 year consultation and negotiation process with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, culminating in a mixed use scheme comprised of a new church and community centre, set within a new building on the undeveloped half of the curtilage, with two floors of residential accommodation above.

In tandem the existing listed church building is to be converted into apartments.

The overall scheme yields 23 apartments and 100% onsite residential and community centre parking provision whilst maintaining the sensitive context of the listed building.

It also ensures the continued presence of the Congregation on the site in new fully accessible facilities, providing them with the means to generate income to help them on their way to another 125 years of worship and service in Heaton Park.

Roofshield was specified for the roof construction by the architects to ensure condensation does not occur in the roof space.

As the product was readily accepted by NHBC and Local Building Control in this application, the design, detailing and construction process of the project proceeded efficiently without issue.
