First boat to use Spacetherm insulation

The A Proctor Group's Spacetherm, originally used to insulate NASA astronauts in space, is now being used to insulate Lulama, a 40ft wide beam, Caribbean cruiser.

Owned by David Harcombe of Norwood Green Marine Services this beautifully proportioned boat is undergoing a complete refit ready for living aboard The boat although lovely to look at is decidedly cold even when the sun shines

David decided to refit using Spacetherm to help keep restrictions traditionally associated with Styrofoam and other traditional insulation material's to a minimum.

In the Floors and Walls David installed 3 layers of Spacetherm 9mm Blanket and 2 layers of the same in the ceiling so as not to restrict headroom.

Spacetherm Blanket is also available 3mm and 6mm thick.

The Cruiser named Lulama, after the Hawaiian Islands God, will now be a more comfortable environment when cruising in both summer and winter.

The Spacetherm range of high performance super-insulation provides the highest level of thermal insulation possible with a class leading thermal conductivity of 0.013W/mk.

This remarkable performance is achieved through the use of flexible aerogel blankets developed by Aspen Aerogels in the United States.

Spacetherm will provide 2 to 8 times more performance than ordinary insulation materials.

On the Spacetherm website, www.spacetherm.com there is a short video which explains in more detail about the development of the flexible aerogel blanket.

The A.Proctor Group will provide a full back up service including thermal calculations, site visits and installation advice as well as technical presentations in the comfort of your offices.
