Systemardex at the Dundrum Shopping
Centre

Ardex UK teamed up with Floor Form of County Down to complete flooring and tiling assignment at the new Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin.

Ardex UK, the leading manufacturer of advanced fast track flooring and tiling products, teamed up with Floor Form Limited of County Down to complete a 25,000m2 flooring and tiling assignment at the new Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin Offering 21 restaurants, 1 nightclub, 12 cinemas, 1 theatre, and over 100 shops including names such as Ireland's only Harvey Nichols and House of Fraser, the Dundrum Town Centre is Dublin's premier out of town retail facility

In order to meet the demands of heavy foot-fall traffic and regular cleaning routines, it was essential that a flat, hard-wearing, and low maintenance floor was specified.

To commence the project, all of the department store floors received Ardex P 82 primer prior to the application of Ardex K 15 self-levelling smoothing compound, which provides a smooth and even surface whether pump or trowel applied.

Incorporating unique Ardex 'Rapidry Formula' technology, Ardex K 15's rapid hardening properties meant that it was walkable only 2 hours after application and the additional benefit of rapid drying meant the final floorcovering was applied within just 24 hours, regardless of application thickness.

The large format tiles were fixed to the newly smoothed mall surfaces with Ardex-FLEX S 38 flexible rapid hardening floor tile bedding mortar.

Ardex-FLEX S 38 offers many key benefits including superb adhesion, 30 minutes tile adjustability, 2 hours working time and a fluid, pourable consistency which enabled the large format tiles to be solid bed fixed without the need to butter the back of the tiles.

Ardex C 2 grey cement-based tile grout was chosen to grout the tile joints, being highly versatile, Ardex C 2 is easy to apply and clean off and is ideal for tile joints 2mm or more in width.

The final stages of this project required Ardex-FLEX 5001 grey flexible tile adhesive to fix the specially selected decorative tiles within the entrance vicinity of the shopping centre.

Ardex-FLEX 5001 has high initial grab with excellent slump resistance and is suitable for all tile types, including fully vitrified, porcelain and mosaics.

Suitable for joint widths from 3-15mm wide, Ardex-FLEX FL grey rapid setting flexible grout was then used to grout the tile joints throughout the entrance area.

"This vast new build project dictated a variety of requirements, and by using a selection of proven Ardex products, we were able to install an integrated system solution which minimised problems on site and helped us ensure a top quality finish", commented Sean Burns of Floor Form Limited.
