After sixteen years' service with plant hire operator Scanlan's, based in Nantwich, Cheshire, the older of their two Cementech volumetric concrete mixers is to be retired - as a trade-in against two new Cementech machines mounted on Scania 8-wheeled rigid trucks When Scanlan's take delivery of the two new, larger units, the original will return to Armcon Cementech for refurbishment and be sold with a full warranty

First Armcon mixer on new TGV contract for Vossloh
European infrastructure services provider Vossloh has taken delivery of the first Armcon Cementech rail-mounted volumetric concrete mixer system in Continental Europe.
"The older machine has demonstrated excellent reliability, " says Scanlan's Financial Director, Simon Baldwin, "with good service from Armcon, and even after sixteen years we weren't surprised that it had a good trade-in value.
There have been advances in technology since we bought it, though, and we want to keep abreast of the times.
The main advantage of the new MCD8MX-100 is the faster delivery of concrete - around two and a half minutes to generate a cubic metre of concrete." The larger size of the new machines - 8mü as opposed to 5mü - was also a key consideration.

According to Simon, "The larger capacity makes for a more efficient piece of plant.
We do a lot of deliveries around 1m2: where the older machine would have to return after 5 such drops, the new one will be able to manage 8." Scanlan's was one of the UK's first operators of Cementech mixers, with twenty years' experience of the type.
"That we use Cementech is almost entirely down to the vision of David Scanlan," says Simon.
"He saw one at a show and grasped the benefits immediately.
What's best about the concept is that the mixer can travel from site to site all day without the concrete going off - and there's no need to worry about exact quantities.
There's nothing worse than ordering 2m2 from a rotary mixer operator and then finding you actually need 2.1m2 - or over-ordering and having to pay for concrete you don't use.
With a Cementech machine, the customer gives us an estimated volume and then we mix the precise quantity and consistency on site.
If they need 2.1m2, then 2.1m2 is what we mix and they pay for." A family-run business, Scanlan's was founded by the late George Scanlan and is currently in the hands of his son, David with assistance from his daughters, Kay and Cheryl.
The company was originally a building concern: since its beginnings, Scanlan's has diversified into fields including ready-mixed concrete, plant hire and waste disposal.
