Ashzip standing seam roofing system from Ash and Lacy has been installed as part of a brand new extension at the Forres Academy in West Moray, North East Scotland.

An Ashzip standing seam roofing system from Ash and Lacy has been installed as part of a brand new extension at the Forres Academy, a six year comprehensive community school based in West Moray, North East Scotland A major focus for Moray Council is to invest in the education of children and young people by commissioning high quality buildings and improved facilities for a better learning environment

Schools in particular, are seen as vital to the community resources and as part of this campaign, Moray Council sanctioned the fitting of several new roofs for the classrooms.

The main Ashzip roofing was installed on the modern language centre and parts of the music block at Forres Academy.

Rig Construction were appointed as roofing contractors and Dougie McCallum, Director of Rig Construction, commented: "We installed two double pitched roofs and a mono pitched roof".

"The Ashzip roofing system afforded ease of installation with Ash and Lacy also supplying ancillaries products and Ashfab flashings".

Given that the extension also includes a music block, acoustics were naturally a prime consideration.

Ashzip's inherent acoustic performance can be enhanced with the use of a perforated liner sheet used in conjunction with an absorptive insulation layer to control reverberation and further reduce unwanted sound within a building.

Commenting on the roof, a spokesperson from Forres Academy says - "We experienced no problems whatsoever".

"Everyone is delighted with the new roof." Where Ashzip differs from other standing seam roofing systems is in the philosophy adopted by Ash and Lacy, which is based on offering a total roof envelope solution from a single source.

This recognises that the appearance and performance of a roof is seriously compromised unless components such as gutters (or rainwater goods) and the visually dominant perimeter details are all to the same high standard.

This combined with the unrivalled technical expertise in the design and application of the complete roof system is proving to be a winning combination with specifiers and contractors alike.
