Ash and Lacy's Ashjack and Ashzip over-roof conversion system, featuring Ashfab insulated flashings and gutters, used at Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld.

Greenfaulds High School in Cumbernauld, Scotland, has welcomed the arrival of a new pitched roof, thanks to Ash and Lacy's Ashjack and Ashzip over-roof conversion system, featuring Ashfab insulated flashings and gutters The school had suffered with the leakage of its' failing flat roof for over 15 years, which was allowing water to seep into classrooms and corridors, causing disruption to its' day to day running; an issue which led the North Lanarkshire Council to search for a permanent refurbishment solution

Greenfaulds' original roof was installed in 1971 when the school opened, and soon after began experiencing problems relating to poor thermal performance and leakages which became progressively worse over the years - a characteristic which is not uncommon with some lightweight flat roofs.

Chris Barrett of North Lanarkshire council, the architects and client on the case, chose Ash and Lacy to complete the flat to pitch conversion, based on their reputable name and knowledge, and expertise in the industry.

The new standing seam roof was constructed on top of the original flat roof, by creating an Ashjack frame, onto which the Ashzip standing seam roofing was applied.

Ashzip provides the perfect solution to solving leakage problems; its' light weight and ease of handling means it can be manufactured onsite in very long lengths and rolled directly to the roof structure, before being 'zipped up', creating a weatherproof, wind resistant standing seam roof.

Single continuous sheet lengths with no penetrative fixings make it virtually impossible for such a roof construction to leak, whilst the pitch created by the Ashjack frame facilitates run-off.

Combining this with Ashfab gutters and flashings, results in all drainage being relocated to the outside of the building, ensuring water is permanently removed from the roof.

Project roofing contractors and regular Ash and Lacy users, Rennie Roofcare based in Glasgow, confirmed that they were once again impressed by the product and its' installation, having already commissioned Ash and Lacy to work on several other schemes with which they are involved.

Robert Ross of Greenfaulds High School added that Ash and Lacy have solved their leakage problems and also improved the thermal performance of the roof, with the school feeling immediately warmer and drier.

Combining Ashjack with Ashzip and Ashfab technology provides a cost effective method to substantially prolong the life of a building, upgrading the aesthetics as well as reducing future maintenance costs.
