Whitwell, commercial director with Capita Symonds, said that ACE had "made fantastic progress in the past three years" with the voice of the sector increasingly heard throughout the industry.
"At a time when the industry is relatively healthy, it is crucial that we increase and talk up the value of consultancy and engineering".
"We need to speak out on the key issues and raise our banner high".
Addressing the challenges facing the industry, Whitwell said that consultancy firms needed to encourage and develop the best talent and hold them in the industry.
"There are currently massive opportunities out there for the consultancy and engineering sector and we have to get more talent into our businesses to ensure that we have the right resources to take advantage," he said.
Whitwell said he was looking forward to his 12-month term of office at the helm of ACE.
"With a newly strengthened board and a more professional and refocused operational structure, ACE is now in a position to make a significant difference to the business performance of its members".
"Delivering prosperity for our business is what ACE is all about and I'm proud and honoured to be able to play my part in achieving this over the coming year," Whitwell said.
ACE's chief executi! ve Nelson Ogunshakin commented: "I'm looking forward to working with Michael in driving forward ACE's agenda to the next level over the next 12 months.".
