Atkins, the largest multi-disciplinary consultancy in Europe with 400 staff in Scotland, has today reported good annual results.

Atkins, the largest multi-disciplinary consultancy in Europe with 400 staff in Scotland, has today reported good annual results for the period to March 2005 The company, which is the UK's largest engineering consultancy, announced a 31% increase in its adjusted profit before tax

Strong cash flow underlined the quality of the annual results, with net funds increasing from GBP 68.4m to GBP 106.7m.

Activities in Scotland once again played an important part in the Atkins Group success.

Teams in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen have further extended their activities across the public sector and have expanded their commercial undertakings.

Atkins' UK and international projects include: Metronet the London Tube PPP to refurbish and modernise 150 stations; the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai; urban redevelopment of Trafalgar Square in London; the development of London's first ever comprehensive noise map (DEFRA), the new seven star luxury VIP terminal at Abu Dhabi Airport; the North South Line metro project in Amsterdam.

Projects Atkins is involved with across Scotland include:.

* Glasgow's GBP 34m new and iconic footbridge linking Broomielaw with Tradeston.

* Healthcare buildings, including NHS Glasgow's GBP 130m new ambulatory care and diagnostic centres, and Yorkhill Hospital's new critical care unit for children.

* School buildings across 10 local authority areas (advising on PPP Education Programmes with project capital values GBP 768m).

* Design services to South Lanarkshire Council's Schools Renewal Programme.

* Glasgow City Council'sGBP 25m road infrastructure works at Glasgow Harbour.

* The M77 extension from Malletsheugh to Fenwick and the Glasgow Southern Orbital.

* Ruchill Surface Water Management Project (INTERREG funded), which combines a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) with potentially renewable energy in order to facilitate urban regeneration within Glasgow.

* Long-standing consultancy for Erskine Hospital Charitable Foundation for ex-servicemen and women.

* Cost management advice to preferred bidder on Argyll and Bute Schools programme, the first not-for-profit schools deal in the UK (Faithful and Gould).

* Project Management for Edinburgh's Telford College New Campus Development, Edinburgh (Faithful and Gould).

* Project Management for HBOS The Mound HQ Restoration (Faithful and Gould).

* Transport Consultancy on Waverley Station upgrade scheme.

* First Group asset management (Faithful and Gould).

* Framework contracts with Scottish Executive (consultancy on roads, transport and environment); City of Glasgow Council (consultancy on roads, transport and environment); City of Edinburgh Council (multi = disciplinary design and project management services on all sectors bar Housing); and with Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk Councils (consultancy on roads, transport and environment).

* Cable and Wireless' 11,000km UK and Ireland network.

* Highlands and Islands Enterprise implementation of the GBP 5m Connected Communities Broadband Network.

* Technical strategies, including IP telephony and convergence, for Fife Council, Scottish Water, and Scottish Agricultural and Science Agency, and others.
