Cost and efficiency savings with
Autodesk Buzzsaw

Top architectural practice benefits from easy-to-use, efficient and environmentally-friendly online project collaboration service with Autodesk Buzzsaw.

Broadway Malyan, one of Europe's leading architectural and integrated design practices, has been impressed with the cost and efficiency savings achieved with Autodesk Buzzsaw, both for its architects and their extended project teams "It has increased our ability to provide a truly competitive service," confirms IT director Simon Johns

"Client satisfaction has improved as a result of our ability to turn round RFIs more rapidly and efficiently, for example, because the all the information needed is held centrally and is easy to access".

The Buzzsaw service gives all authorised project partners easy and round-the-clock access to current project drawings and documentation.

As a result, it helps increase accuracy by ensuring that all team members are working on the most current document; it speeds project timescales by eliminating the need to send bulky drawings via courier or post; and it increases accountability by providing detailed activity logs.

Johns also points to the reduction in in-house printing costs: "Buzzsaw has saved us tens of thousands of pounds in just two years," he points out, "and has undoubtedly paid for itself several times over".

Buzzsaw also saves time and money by eliminating duplication of work, time wasted waiting for documents to arrive, and ultimately, major construction errors caused by miscommunication between project partners.

All this has been extremely valuable to Broadway Malyan as it has grown into a global company, with some 450 staff over six offices in the UK, three in Europe and a number of associate offices including one in Shanghai, China.

Buzzsaw is used in every office and has proved a far easier and more reliable way of transferring files than email.

"Broadway Malyan is an excellent example of how Buzzsaw can enable companies to act truly globally, rather than just thinking about it," confirms Mark Ellis, business manager, Autodesk Collaboration Services.

"Working with Buzzsaw makes it easier to work with global partners and so supports the development of new revenue streams".

"At the same time, it saves international courier costs and eliminates time delays in receiving documents in different time zones".

Cuts costs, meets deadlines Buzzsaw has been used on a number of large projects, including the planning and design of the new Met Office headquarters for 2,000 staff in Exeter.

"This was a huge, high-profile project with many contractors, all of whom needed to view drawings," says Johns.

"Using Buzzsaw gelled everything together, as everybody knew they had instant access to the latest drawings and other documents, whenever they needed it".

On any one project, over 50 architects, engineers and other contractors may have access to the Broadway Malyan site and Johns points to Buzzsaw's user-friendliness as one of the main reasons for its success.

"Everyone here finds it very straightforward and intuitive and, because at any given time, project managers can have a 'snapshot' of exactly what is happening on a design, Buzzsaw makes it much simpler for them to keep control of costs or timelines".

One aspect of Buzzsaw that has proved especially valuable is that it is possible to track who has opened what document and when they did so.

"No longer can anyone deny having received or seen a drawing, when you can tell them exactly what time they viewed it," he says.

Broadway Malyan's graphics team also use the service intensively - particularly for sending large images to their external printers when creating promotional material - and Johns believes that Buzzsaw has strong potential beyond the construction industry.

"In the meantime, we are very happy with what it has done for us here," he confirms.

"Buzzsaw is a well-rounded, holistic tool that has improved our ability to provide clients with a first-class service". Request a free brochure from Autodesk ...
