Autodesk Buzzsaw helps manage and control new Antwerp Court House

Autodesk Buzzsaw has played a key role in enabling a site manager to keep a long-running, $160 million pan-European project under control and have fast, round-the-clock access to the most current information Jos Jonkers, site manager for the investment company, Justinvest, explains how the online project collaboration service has kept track of tens of thousands of drawings and documents during the design and build of the new Antwerp Court House (Regie der Gebouwen) in Belgium

"Because all information is kept in one secure, central location, contractors have been able to drastically cut the number of drawings printed by around 80%," he says.

Autodesk Buzzsaw came to the rescue after a proprietary system from Arup, one of the partners in the design team, reached the end of its life a few years into the project.

Buzzsaw was chosen as it was easy to use and compatible with AutoCAD, the standard software for the project.

The Autodesk name was a decisive factor: "We recognised that Buzzsaw was a product with a future," says Jonkers.

Now he is able to get a "snapshot" of the current status of the project at any time.

"I spend most of my time on site - but if the client asks a question, I can find the answer I need immediately.

Without Buzzsaw I would have had to search through literally thousands of drawings.

"It's also much easier to check the correlation between drawings from different contractors and see how everything fits.

It is really impossible to estimate how much time Buzzsaw has saved me because every project is different.

But a project of this size would have been very difficult to manage without it.

All parties have saved money and time by using Buzzsaw".

The stunning new 77,000 square metre Court House, now nearing completion, was designed by Richard Rogers Partnership, Ove Arup and Partners and the Belgian company Bureau Van Kerckhove.
