Autodesk announced that it is the patron sponsor of the United States Pavilion at the 10th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2006 Venice Biennale.

Autodesk, the world's leading provider of design software, today announced that it is the patron sponsor of the United States Pavilion at the 10th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2006 Venice Biennale held in Venice, Italy, from September through to November This year the focus for Biennale is on issues facing large metropolitan areas around the world: from migration to mobility, from social integration to sustainable growth

As part of its continued commitment to sustainable design, Autodesk will help showcase innovative and sustainable architectural proposals for rebuilding New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

Autodesk will also present the European premiere of design: e2 (The Economics of Being Environmentally Conscious) an Autodesk-sponsored television series about sustainable design narrated by Brad Pitt scheduled to air across Europe this Autumn.

"Autodesk is proud to be a sponsor of the Venice Biennale and to help create a forum for the world's preeminent architects and designers to come together and examine the critical issue of sustainability," said Phil Bernstein, FAIA, vice president of Building Industry Strategy and Relations at Autodesk.

"We hope visitors to the Biennale will learn how building information modelling technology is making sustainable design easier and more efficient." Autodesk Technology Enables New Sustainable Designs for New Orleans.

The United States Pavilion at the 10th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice will highlight winning entries from the Architectural Record and Tulane University "High Density on the High Ground Competition," which challenged architects to propose an environmentally sensitive 160-unit housing project on an actual development site.

Autodesk will showcase one of the winning entries, Anderson Anderson Architecture's Camel Back Shotgun Sponge Garden, a unique concrete and steel structure that is the physical embodiment of sustainable design, both in practice and philosophy.

It was designed with alternating narrow and full light courts to permit filtered light and ventilation to reach all four sides of every unit, and routes rainwater to planted decks on the roof to absorb runoff.

The structurally insulated panel system also filters rain and supports planting, eventually becoming a "green wall".

Visitors can learn how Autodesk Revit Building, Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Combustion software products were used to create 3D models and building information models to predict the performance of the Camel Back Shotgun Sponge Garden in its urban environment.

This technology can enable architects, engineers, and designers to reduce waste, determine key information regarding materials selection and energy consumption, and actively respond to dynamic daily and seasonal environmental cycles.

European Premiere of design: e2.

design: e2 (The Economics of Being Environmentally Conscious) is a new television documentary series produced by kontentreel which highlights the positive impact sustainable architecture has on the economy, health and the planet.

Autodesk sponsored the production of this series, which will make its European debut at the Venice Biennale before screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

The programmes in the six-part series chronicle important stories of green design around the world -- including in New York, in Chicago's city government, in homes in China -- and into the future.

The series is narrated by Brad Pitt and features the most progressive minds in the green building and sustainable design movement including Werner Sobek, William McDonough, Sergio Palleroni and Michael McDonough.

It is scheduled to air across Europe beginning this Autumn.
