Autodesk has been highly commended for its "sustainable participation" in Think 07, a recent new event for the UK construction and property markets, comprising high-profile conferences, exhibitions and networking opportunities around three themes: sustainability, regeneration and innovation Autodesk had two stands at the event; one in the innovation zone and the second in the sustainability zone where the centrepiece was a huge ice sculpture of a polar bear, reminding us of the urgent need to act on global warming and to protect natural resources

"The polar bear was definitely a talking point at the show," says David Pierpoint, Think 07 event director.

"But, importantly, Autodesk had taken special care to ensure that the materials and products used to create the stands were, wherever possible, either recycled, re-usable or from sustainable sources".

For example, Autodesk was insistent that all the timber used for the stand had Forest Stewarding Council approval (and therefore came from sustainable sources) and during the build, waste was kept to an absolute minimum, making the most economic use of the materials used as possible.

These included birch faced and asian faced plywood.

Volatile organic compound-free adhesives and "green" paints were used, wallpaper was recyclable and only LED energy efficient lighting using substantially less power than ordinary candescent bulbs were allowed.

Even the fibre-mixed carpet was recyclable - it was later pulled up to be turned into plastic products such as wheelie bins and plant pots. Request free introductory details about products from Autodesk ...
