City of York Council chooses AutoCAD
Revit

Faced with its largest project yet, the property services department of City of York Council has invested in AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite.

The council has bought the software in order to better communicate design ideas and to ensure the GBP10 million project is completed within a tight deadline The project involves the creation of a new school, to replace the existing Oaklands and Lowfields secondary schools in York, and includes the refurbishment and rebuilding of existing premises plus new buildings

As architectural technician Richard Leathley explains: "We were looking for 3D design software that would help us turn around the project in the necessary short timescales." The council did consider a number of different software solutions.

"However, we are committed to Autodesk solutions and anyway, once our Autodesk reseller, NTC MicroCAD, had demonstrated Revit Architecture, we could see it would help us work faster and more accurately," Richard said.

He predicts that Revit Architecture will save the design team time in several ways; through better co-ordination of design drawings and because of its automatic scheduling functionality.

Also, using a 3D model helps the council better explore design options and explain ideas using sophisticated techniques such as "fly-throughs" to all the various stakeholders including councillors and teachers.

"The council has been quick to recognise the value of 3D modelling and parametric change technology - and how Revit Architecture can radically reduce design time," says Robert Barnes of NTC MicroCAD.

"It is now keen to use the software on projects of all sizes. Request a free brochure from Autodesk ...
