Leading UK construction consultancy, Avebury, presented with prestigious award for its work to keep its building sites accident free.

Avebury, which offers a complete range of construction services, from architects to project management and direct procurement, has been given the health and safety accolade by the influential Building Safety Group (BSG).

It was in recognition of Avebury's on-going work to minimise the risk of accidents and improve working conditions for all on-site.

Paul Howett, Avebury site manager and recipient of the award for his work on a recent social housing project in Bow, east London, said: "At Avebury, construction is all about people, not only those who will live in the homes we create but also those who work to make these new homes a reality".

""We are delighted that our work in health and safety has been recognised and hope that our best practice example will inspire others in the industry".

Andrew Owst, director of operations at the Building Safety Group, the UK's largest independent health and safety advisory organisation specialising in construction, said: "This award is presented to those who are maintaining the highest standards of health and safety and is open to principal contractors and specialist trade contractors.

"Avebury's work is leading the way in cutting incidents on site and protecting those who are working in construction".

Avebury was presented with the South East Award in the 2007 Site Manager Awards.

Last year there were over 12,833 accidents on UK sites, according to figures from the Health and Safety Executive.
