Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 26, 2004

Visitors to this year's ICU exhibition with an interest in site investigation and clearance will have the opportunity to talk first hand with experts from BACTEC International.

Visitors to this year's ICU exhibition with an interest in site investigation and clearance will have the opportunity to talk first hand with experts from BACTEC International Limited, the UK's leading Explosive Ordnance Survey, Clearance and Disposal (EOD) Company (Stand 214).

BACTEC works in support of construction and site remediation projects, both on land and under water and employs leading edge technology to deal with all aspects of explosive ordnance risk mitigation.

Most people are aware that Britain was extensively bombed during the Second World War.

However what is not commonly known is that, typically, 10% of the bombs dropped failed to explode.

This legacy of unexploded bombs along with associated items of unexploded ordnance poses a direct threat to personnel working in the remediation and construction industries.

A visit to BACTEC's stand will offer an opportunity for Land owners and developers to find out about how this risk can best be measured, managed and mitigated.

Alternatively, visitors to ICU can attend BACTEC's free seminar Unexploded Ordnance-"The Unknown Risk" which takes place on the afternoon of Thursday 1st April and runs in conjunction with the co-located ET exhibition.

BACTEC's Technical Director, Simon Cooke, will present the historical threat posed by unexploded ordnance throughout the UK and the risk that it poses today.

He will highlight a suite of potential risk mitigation mechanisms that the company has successfully tailored to suit various client scenarios, and will also present practical examples of major clear-up projects.
