Riverhead infants school wins best new build project with a Bauder green roof

The Flat Roofing Alliance were formed in 1938 as Felt Roofing Contractors Advisory Board which acted as a contractors trade and technical body, representing all aspects of flat roofing, except for mastic asphalt.

It set the standards for products, specifications, safety and training.

In 1997 it merged with members of the Association of British Felt Manufacturers and the FRA was formed.

Nowadays although they promote flat roofing in general, they are mainly committed to built-up bituminous roofing.

In order to recognise the excellence in bituminous built up flat roofing, and the achievement of training to National Standards the FRA introduced the National Built- Up Awards, which is now in its fourth year.

The various categories included New Build - Best Project and it was for this category that E.J.Roberts Roofing Limited, London, won with the installation of the Bauder Green Roof System on the barrel-vaulted roof construction on Riverhead Infants School, Kent.

The Judges comments were - "Great project - special quality." "Innovative design." "Delighted client." "The roof is feature of the building and the most important design element of the project." "Very appropriate finish with supplier design involvement." "Inspiring for all members of the Flat Roofing Alliance." "Excellent example of collaborative working producing innovative and attractive roof".

This is not the first time this eye-catching green roof has won acclaim, in 2003 the project was awarded a Civic Trust Award for its benefits to the local habitat.

The Bauder Sedum Green Roof is a genuine ecological masking material which truly places the environment first by using recycled matter as much as possible and taking from nature the absolute minimum.

Bauder is proud of the achievement with Riverhead Infants School and the impact it has clearly had on the children.

After all if we can encourage them to appreciate the importance of environmental balance now it can only bring a better understanding of how its precious future lies within their generation's hands.
