Women brickies
Baggeridge confirm the news that the brick industry is becoming an increasingly popular choice of profession amongst females
Sedgley-based brick manufacturer Baggeridge is supporting the news that working in the brick industry is becoming an increasingly popular choice of profession amongst females, following the news that Hollywood a-lister, Keira Knightly, recently admitted wanting to try her hand at brick laying! At Baggeridge, a staggering 25 per cent of the external work force is made up by women, which was unknown 20 years ago.
In addition, there are five heads of department in the company which just goes to show that there is a growing trend towards women wanting to enter male-dominated industries.
Mark Morris, sales director at Baggeridge is pleased that boundaries are being broken down in the brick industry between men and women.
He said: "At Baggeridge we have witnessed a slow but gradual trend towards more women entering this industry both on the managerial and manual side of the business, and this is something that we are actively encouraging".
Baggeridge is the largest independent manufacturer of clay bricks and pavers.
Each year the company produces in excess of 300 million bricks at its factories in Sedgley, Kingsbury, Rudgwick, Hartlebury and Waresley.
