Bricks from Baggeridge have helped Land Registry's new information systems office in Plymouth to make a big impression on the local landscape.
Architects Schal specified bricks from Baggeridge's newly launched European range - Smooth White Venice and Smooth Grey Berlin.
In total 350,000 bricks were used throughout the project, including a large number of 'specials', some of which were purpose made for the project.
The new facility will house around 500 staff and develop IT systems for Land Registry across England and Wales.
Not only does the scheme include office space, but will also offer other staff amenities including a creche.
Land Registry is a Government Department, Executive Agency and Trading Fund and reports to the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and Lord Chancellor.
Land Registry keeps and maintains the land register for England and Wales for England and Wales.
The bricks were specified to meet the requirements of the Regional Development Agency who wanted the building to blend in with surrounding steel buildings.
The Smooth White Venice bricks formed the basis of the design while the Smooth Grey Berlin bricks provide extra detail, for example as banding around the windows.
Glazing and solar shading also feature heavily in Schal's design, softening the impact of the scheme overall.
Nic White, Baggeridge's architectural consultant said: "We worked closely with Schal to create an aesthetic that matched their vision, whilst ensuring the criteria set out by the Regional Development Agency was met".
"The White Venice and Grey Berlin bricks have produced finished brickwork which has a bold, crisp, monochromatic appearance." White Venice and Grey Berlin through-coloured bricks, feature pure colour throughout the body and have high levels of dimensional accuracy to give a stunning appearance.
The through-coloured range of bricks includes subtle shades of colour from high quality clay mixes found only in Europe.
Frost resistant and extremely durable, they are easy to maintain - an important consideration on buildings with light facades.
The products were supplied through builder's merchants E H Smith in Birmingham.
