Baggerige Bricks get top marks from London school

Based in Stamford Hill, this new Jewish school was built on a vacant plot and architects, RHWL, chose Baggeridge as the preferred brick supplier to carry out all exterior works at the new school.

Mick Barratt, director, from RHWL said: "We specified Baggeridge's Orange Multi Gilt Stock bricks because they related well to both the surrounding residential and commercial buildings and complemented the accompanying palette of materials used for the school - which included timber glulam beams, and light grey metalwork".

"Additionally, the brick's dimensional consistency and subtle texture achieves a modern reinterpretation of the London vernacular for building in brick".

Now complete, the impressive building takes the form of a central administration area, library and hall block linked to two brick and glass teaching wings.

The deeply modelled castellated brickwork base of the front elevation encloses special acoustic ventilators and the structural elements that rise up to support the curved timber and metal roof.

Mick's long-standing relationship with Baggeridge was a key factor in him selecting to work with the manufacturer again.

He added: "We found that Baggeridge could supply a product that suited our aesthetic requirements and even though we considered other manufacturers' products, this particular brick fulfilled all technical needs as well as providing colour and textural variation whilst still being dimensionally consistent.".
