Sperian adds to edge-tested fall protection range

Miller by Sperian, the fall protection brand from Sperian Protection, has added a new lanyard product to its revolutionary edge-tested fall protection range.

The Manyard completes Miller by Sperian's edge-tested product offering that prevents accidents caused by the breakage of fall protection connection elements during on-edge use.

The range was developed following the company's involvement in the European VG11 working group's analysis of methods for testing fall protection connections on edges.

The hazards associated with fall protection lanyards breaking against edges has led to a number of European organisations taking action to raise awareness of this issue.

For example, in 2006 the German professional union, the BerufsGenossenschaft (BG), tested 169 fall arrest systems for use on edges.

Their findings showed that over 80% were inappropriate.

More recently the European VG11 working group was set up to analyse and improve the efficiency of testing methods for fall protection equipment on edges.

Miller by Sperian, a Sperian Protection group brand, joined the working group as a result of its recognised expertise for equipping those working at height.

Whilst the testing method developed by the VG11 working group has not yet been included in regulatory standards, Miller by Sperian has used their recommendations to inform the development of its range of edge-tested products.

The newest addition to the range, the Manyard, uses new technology developed from the textile industry and the manufacture of elastic products: the wrapped filament is born out of the production of a hybrid thread that combines elasticity with break-resistance.

Miller by Sperian has patented this technology by developing a protective sleeve that has mechanical properties resistant to impacts against edges.

Each of the sleeves is composed of a POY core, with a significant stretch capacity, and has a wound, durable thread over this core to give excellent resistance to shearing.

The absorbent material inside is therefore protected and free to arrest the fall.

The Manyard is the first edge-tested product to use this innovative new technology and is ideal for scaffolding, maintenance, industry and telecommunications.

It also meets the EN 355:2002 standard and the EN 354 draft standard on horizontal use and edge testing.

The Manyard completes Miller by Sperian's edge-tested range which already includes a kernmantel (nylon rope) shock absorbing lanyard and a Scorpion personal fall limiter, both of which are edge tested and have been available for 8 months.

The edge-tested kernmantel lanyard from Miller by Sperian is fitted with a shock absorber that diffuses the energy generated during a fall.

Users can connect safely thanks to a variety of karabiners.

The double Y-lanyard is specially designed for pylon climbing since it enables users to climb while remaining constantly connected.

This EN 355:2002-certified lanyard is recommended for many different sectors: telecommunications, electricity and transport, industry, building and construction, etc.

The edge-tested personal fall limiter completes the offering, to provide all workers with solutions adapted to their field, ensuring their complete safety.

The EN 306:2002-certified retractable lifeline features a quick-activating braking mechanism that limits a free fall to just a few centimetres.

The light and extremely solid lifeline's internal components are corrosion-resistant and it features an aluminium and stainless steel body and a high impact polymer cover.
