Parquet floor consisting of 50,000 pieces of timber has been meticulously coated with Becker Acroma's Parquet One lacquer, in the renovation of a Dublin church of extreme historical importance.

The former St Mary's Church, which dates from the 1700's and is grade 1 listed, was transformed over a period of eight years from a derelict state to become a unique contemporary bar and restaurant, known as John M Keating's The building has been classified by the Irish Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands as having "intrinsic historical interest"

Christy's Architectural Salvage, carried out the work on the floor.

Christy's imported the timber from Scotland, fitted and machined it with precision, and then applied Becker Acroma's Parquet One lacquer.

Christy Duncan, of Christy's Architectural Salvage said, "This was a very high profile job with a Grade 1 listing, so Parquet One was specified by the architect for a high quality finish".

David Rickarby from Becker Acroma (Ireland) explains why Parquet One is ideal for this kind of project, "Parquet One is a 100% waterborne polyurethane lacquer with high durability and low odour, so it is perfect for a situation such as this where quality and preservation are key issues".

"It is also fast drying and meets BS7044 (1990) for slip resistance, which is important in a building for public use".

St Mary's is one of Dublin's earliest examples of a galleried church and was highly significant in the development of public architecture in Ireland.

Many famous names are connected to the church; Arthur Guinness, founder of the Guinness Brewery was married there and services were attended by author Jonathan Swift and John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church.
