The timber frame construction industry heightened its sustainability credentials with the announcement that one of the UK's leading manufacturers has been awarded a regional Big Tick at the annual Business in the Community Wales Awards for Excellence.

One of only seven Welsh companies recognised at this years prestigious ceremonial luncheon event in Cardiff sponsored by Royal Mail, South-Wales based Benfield ATT, the Timber Frame firm headed by industry expert Professor Michael Benfield, picked-up its second Big Tick Award - the prestigious awards endorsement - in the Impact on Society for a Small Company category.

Peter Williams, Director of Business in the Community Wales said: "Responsible businesses, like Benfield ATT, really understand the links between competitiveness and social cohesion".

"They are demonstrating a commitment to collaborative action with real benefits for their businesses - it's much more than improving the company's image of writing a cheque for a good cause.

Benfield ATT was recognised for improving its overall impact - for a second year running - on the marketplace, workplace, environment and community through its leadership, business integration and Passionate People Programme.

Professor Benfield congratulated his team this week, commenting: "Being a major pacesetter within the Timber Frame industry and being at the heart of our community has been integral to our success over the last two years".

"We placed people at the centre of the business by implementing policies and practices designed to benefit the customer, as opposed to the main contractor, which has really strengthened the relationships between our clients, suppliers and our people".

Within the last two-and-a-half years Benfield ATT has received more Quality Awards and Credentials than any other firm within the Construction industry.

This year alone has seen the opening of a new regional office for the North West and North Wales, the expansion of its in-house design and Technical Support services, as well as the reaccredidation of its Forestry Stewardship Council chain of custody and ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Procedure.

Other businesses in Wales to be recognised for their commitment to responsible business practice include BT Wales, Airbus UK and Rhondda Housing Association.

Benfield ATT continues to be the only winner in Wales of the Impact on Society for a Small Company award.
