Applied Window Films Group to raise awareness on the role window film plays in saving energy and personal safety.

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) announce the appointment of Ian Penfold of Solar Gard Window Films to the position of Chairman for the Applied Window Film Group Within GGF, the Applied Window Film Group is a specialist group reporting to the Glazing Executive of the GGF and consists of manufacturers, distributors and installers of window film products

The Applied Window Film Group constantly reviews and improves current practices in order to increase the professionalism of its members with a view to providing value for money solutions.

Additionally, the Group aims at creating awareness on the issues and regulations greatly affecting the environment such as climate change and personal safety.

Contribution to environmental issues.

Ian Penfold started his career in the window film industry in 1983 and has, over the years, built a wealth of experience specifically in the fields of blast mitigation, health and safety regulations, solar control and insulation.

In 2005, Mr.Penfold joined Bekaert Specialty Films, the manufacturer of Solar Gard window film, as Flat Glass Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland.

As a key player in the UK market, Mr Penfold has worked extensively in both a training and consultative capacity dealing with end users and installers alike to educate them on the many solutions window film can provide.

Mr.Penfold is thrilled about this new challenge: "It is an honour to receive this title and I intend to use my extensive experience to further promote window film within the glazing industry".

Applied window film is a primarily retro-fitted coating for glass.

In the past, the original films dramatically reduced overheating, increased comfort levels and productivity but in recent times the emphasis has focused on the reduction of energy usage, CO2 emissions and carbon footprint.

Virtually glass clear coatings can now reduce cooling loads by 30% and offer practical, significant and measurable solutions for solving a host of social and environmental issues associated with glass.

Solar films expanded rapidly into the areas of safety and security as the base component of the coating is polyester which is an extremely strong and tough material and today end users can enjoy the benefit of both solar and safety protection.

Mr.Penfold adds: "Safety and security, particularly explosion protection require the initial site survey, subsequent specification, selection and installation of the products to comply with the manufacturers recommendations and industry guidelines to ensure performance to the expected levels".

"To that extent, I recently mastered Capsol and Specularis software tools developed by Bekaert, to provide our customers and users with detailed analysis reports, previously only available from heating and ventilation consultants".

Mr.Steve Rice, Director of Glazing at GGF, is delighted to welcome Mr.Penfold as new Chairman for the Applied Window Film Group: "Mr".

"Penfold is a highly respected authority within the industry, bringing a wealth of experience, insight and refreshing ideas".

"We are confident he will take GGF and the industry to a new level, and support our industry in further contributing to environmental issues, which should be a major concern for every company and individual on this planet".

"We are eager to see how the Applied Window Film will thrive under his guidance".

GGF is the recognized leading authority and voice for employers and companies within the flat glass, glazing, window, home improvement, plastics and applied window film industries in the UK.

The federation has members in over 1,000 business locations, working across the industry in everything from emergency glazing, applied film, conservatories, windows, doors, fire resistant glazing, glazing components, flat glass, curtain walling, mirrors and laminated glass.
