There are thousands of Marie Curie Nurses nationwide who care for patients in their own homes for a full working day or night shift.
The presence of a Marie Curie Nurse allows patients to remain at home when they might otherwise have gone into a hospital or hospice.
Explaining why he launched the Chairman's Charity initiative and why he chose Marie Curie Cancer Care, Mick Dalton said: "BIFM gets involved in many events and sponsorship opportunities through its individual and corporate members but as an institute we would also like to give something back to others.
"BIFM has supported charitable causes before on a one-off basis, the Chairman's Charity allows us to work with one organisation over a longer period to really maximise the support we can give." Cancer means something to all of us, either through a personal experience, a family member or through a friend or colleague.
Recent research shows that 64% of us would choose to die at home if we were terminally ill.
Currently only 25% of all cancer patients are granted this wish and Marie Curie Nurses care for half of them.
