Biscoe + Stanton helps transform former gas works site in to vibrant residential destination.

London-based architect Biscoe + Stanton has announced that construction works to develop a vibrant, contemporary 121 unit residential development featuring flats and houses on the edge of green belt land in Chertsey, Surrey for Explore Living are set to start on site early Spring 2008 Situated on a former gas works site, the Pretoria Road development comprises two- and three- bedroom terrace houses sensitively designed to complement an existing Victorian row

And an imaginative block of one- and two- bedroom flats provides a stylish end of terrace.

The project also features a residential courtyard building, formed from three 'L'-shaped blocks.

Between two- and four- storeys high, each block houses up to ten, one- and two- bedroom units on each floor.

Furthermore, a secluded central courtyard garden will form an integral part of the design.

Resident and visitor parking will be housed around the courtyard's perimeter, and in a bid to encourage the use of cycling in the area, purpose-built cycle stores are being located in a glazed lobby providing maximum accessibility.

The development's terrace houses are arranged in staggered groups, and at the junction of each group, intersecting bedrooms over-sail the access roads providing access to rear parking courts.

Using a materials palette of brick cladding at ground floor level and untreated timber boarding cladding on upper levels, the architect's design also includes cream render and coloured feature panels to living room bays as well as steel- framed balconies with glass balustrades.
