BioRegional Consulting wins sustainable consultant of the year award at Building magazine's Sustainability Awards.

Sustainable consultant of the year award at Building magazine's Sustainability Awards for diverse and committed contribution towards sustainability in the built environment Ben Gill, director of BioRegional Consulting commented: "We are thrilled to win this award"

"Our team have been going since 2004 so we are a relatively new team but because of our experience with projects like BedZED and One Planet Living we have been able to offer our clients truly sustainable services based on the lessons learned from our own real-life projects".

"We actually have our offices at BedZED and we certainly practice what we preach - we couldn't very well recommend our clients to go the extra mile otherwise! We look forward to working with many more clients to help embed One Planet Living within the built environment".

BioRegional Consulting were up against tough competition from many established consultants such as Faber Maunsell, Atkins and Faithful + Gould, Building Design Partnership, White Young Green, WSP Group.

Building Magazine said: "BioRegional Consulting stood out for the diversity of its work".

"As well as its groundbreaking efforts in eco housing it has also been involved in sustainable forestry, sustainable farming and recycling".

"It uses the One Planet Living framework on many of its projects based on the 10 guiding principles of sustainability (developed by BioRegional and WWF), which include using local and sustainable materials and fair trade principles".

"It is currently completing its seventh project with English Partnerships in 18 months, one of which will act as a Carbon Challenge site".

"On top of this it is a consultant for waste action group WRAP's Construction Programme and is developing an indicator of the future recyclability of products and projects".

"All together it demonstrated a very committed entry".

The industry's awards recognise outstanding sustainability achievement and were held at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane on Monday 19th November.

This year saw winners in 15 categories rewarded for their excellence in front of a crowd of over 700 leading professionals.

Presented by comedian and author Clive Anderson in central London, the awards showed the strides many in the industry are taking to lessen the industry's environment impact.
