BritishEco advises on the Feed-in Tafiff scheme
BritishEco asks: Would you like to know how to save and earn money when you install Solar PV Panels or a Wind Turbine at your property?
The new website for Feed-in Tariffs can explain how the government backed scheme works, and how you can benefit from these incentive payments when you install a renewable energy system.
The government has launched the scheme to encourage people to install a renewable energy system by offering them financial incentives.
The government has had to do this to meet its targets of generating 15 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
Under the Feed in Tariff scheme (also known as Clean Energy Cashback), you will be paid for all the units of electricity you generate from your approved renewable energy system, such as Solar PV Panels or Wind Turbines.
The government says that the scheme has been set up to offer you up to 8 per cent return on investment.
Feed-in Tariff payments to householders are tax free.
BritishEco has sponsored the website (feedin-tariff.com) to find out the details of how this government incentive works.
The Feed-in Tariffs consists of a Generation Tariff and an Export Tariff.
At the moment you will be paid a fixed income via your electricity supplier of 41.3p for each unit (kWh) of electricity you generate (when you install a Solar PV System of less than 4kWh) - this is the Generation Tariff.
You are free to use this electricity you generate, so reducing your electricity bills, as you will be buying less electricity from your normal supplier.
In addition to the Generation Tariff, you will be paid a further 3p per kWh for surplus electricity which you do not use and which you export to the National Grid via your electricity company - this is the Export Tariff.
So you save in three ways.
Also, you will be protected from future rises in electricity prices, as you will not need to purchase as much from your supplier.
And you will be cutting your carbon footprint.
To give you an idea of how much you can save and earn from the scheme, for a 2kWh rated Solar PV System, you could save GBP900 per annum.
Once accepted onto the Feed-in Tariff scheme, you will receive the payments for 25 years, plus they are index linked.
Note that the rate you receive from the Feed-in Tariffs, is that rate which is applicable when you join the scheme.
The rates will reduce by approximately 8 per cent per year after April 2012 for new entrants to the scheme.
If you want to receive the highest rate for the electricity you generate, you should install Solar PV Panels or a wind turbine sooner rather than later.
Act now to get the best rates.
Everything you need to know about the Feed-in Tariffs is explained on the website.
