Birchdale achieves Secured by Design accreditation

Birchdale Glass has been awarded Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation for its aluminium communal heavy-duty entrance door with electromechanical locking system.

Secured By Design, is the official UK police flagship initiative supporting the principles of 'designing out crime' by focusing on crime prevention at the design and construction stages of new and refurbished residential and commercial properties, promoting the use of security standards for a wide range of products.

Birchdale's aluminium commercial entrance doors have two electromechanical locks and are tested by BSI to PAS 23 and PAS 24 (weather and security tests).

Unlike traditional locks, the electromechanical locks used on Birchdale doors are concealed within the door frame meaning they can be used on an open-in or open-out door, and are not susceptible to vandalism.

Tests over one million cycles have proved that they can take a lot of abuse and still operate effectively.

They can be linked up to any number of entry systems or automatic gearing allowing the door to be used in any high use entry situation.

This latest accolade for Birchdale Glass follows on from a number of recent milestones achieved by the company including being one of the first fabricators and installers to produce an A-Rated aluminium window using double glazed units.

Birchdale has third party accreditation for Kitemark licence BS 4873 (weather performance) and BS 4873:7950 (enhanced security) for its Secure Design Advanced Plus casement and tilt-before-turn window systems.

All of Birchdale's casement window and door products meet SBD accreditation standards, these along with BS EN 1279 part II and III units and an ISO9001 quality management system demonstrate Birchdale's commitment to providing high quality and innovative products.
