Leading plywood exporter Palmasola SA in Curitiba, Brazil, was awarded the Brazilian Export Award 2004 for plywood exports to Europe, United States and Asia, for the third year running The export awards were launched in 2002 by the Brazilian timber magazine REMADE - Revista da Madeira and aim to recognise achievement and to develop export sales in three key sectors:

* Plywood/solid timber products.

* Furniture.

* Paper and wood fibre.

According to figures from the Brazilian Export Ministry/Statistics Department (MDIC), last year total exports were valued at US$ 3.04 bn for plywood/ timber products, US$ 2.9 bn for paper/wood fibre and US$ 1 bn for furniture Founded in 1951, Palmasola has the capacity to produce up to 5,500 cubic m of plywood every month, for wall, floor and roofing and other applications, in addition to a range of doors, sawn timber and products for the automotive industry.

The 2004 Export Award is the latest achievement for a company which takes its responsibilities as a major producer and employer very seriously.

As part of its commitment to customers, Palmasola was awarded its Certificate of Conformity enabling it to CE mark (Attestation Level 2+ Structural plywood) with BM TRADA Certification on 1st January 2004.

According to Sales Director Marciano Rubel, achieving the CE mark was a key factor in Palmasola winning the prestigious export award for a third year.

Mr Rubel said: "From our point of view, to maintain our export volume we must give our customers the quality they expect, we must deliver a product which meets international standards, like the CE mark, and last but not least we must be creative and innovative.

Palmasola has a track record that goes back more than half a century and we will continue to develop new products and alternative solutions for our customers and for the market".

BM TRADA's Ian Rochester, who carried out the CE marking Factory Production Control audit in Brazil, said: "It has been a pleasure working with a company which has so much commitment to achieving a good name for itself and its products in the marketplace".
